The School's Facilities

The school

Introduction

Pocklington Montessori School offers a wide and exciting range of facilities which nurture the optimum development of each and every child according to the Montessori method of education.

Within our carefully prepared environment we provide activities which foster all aspects of a child’s development - emotional, intellectual, physical, and social - encouraging independence, self-confidence, and self-discipline.

Our aim is to help every child realise his or her full potential to become a happy, loving, and fulfilled member of society.

The school is situated on the outskirts of the market town of Pocklington in an attractive rural location which has easy access to the A1079. We have a floodlit car park for 60 cars, enabling children to be dropped off and collected safely.

Security is of prime importance to us - we have CCTV fitted at all key points and all children are met on arrival at the door by a member of staff.

We have two reception areas - one is for Mini Montys and Infants, and the other is for Nursery children.
Both reception areas have staff in attendance to meet and greet children, parents, and visitors. No one can proceed into the school except through reception.

In Detail

Mini Montys area is equipped and furnished to create a home from home environment, furnished as it is with comfy sofas, cots, and daytime beds. Its gentle colour schemes and murals reflect the natural surroundings. Here too are sleep areas, and also play areas which include appropriate Montessori equipment and sand and water.
There are also facilities for baby massage and reflexology.

Nursery classrooms are beautifully furnished and have the full range of Nienhuis Montessori equipment.

Infant classrooms serve the needs of our older children by utilising the advanced Montessori equipment and boast all the technology necessary for National Curriculum work - computers, video equipment, overhead projectors, etc.

A purpose built and well equipped Music department, offering individual tuition in various instruments and in musicianship. Keyboard, Violin and Recorder tuition is available as is the opportunity for ensemble and mini orchestra work. The history of music also forms part of the curriculum.

An Art Studio with a comprehensive range of art and craft materials as well as a pottery kiln, foster all aspects of the child’s creative development. There are also facilities for woodwork, needlework and textiles. Linked to the Art Studio is an outdoor Art area.

A professional Dance Studio with a sprung floor, mirrored walls, barre, and changing rooms, provides the ideal setting for a multitude of
physical activities - ranging from Gymnastics to Karate and Ballet to Pilates.

A Library with a difference which meets children’s needs to stretch out or curl up to relax and read. Big rugs and huge cushions encourage the children to do just this.

A Literacy room is dressed and equipped to a theme each half term giving the children opportunity to explore and extend their language and creative writing in relation to this.

Two IT Suites. One for the Nursery children which has 8 pc’s and the other for the Infants which has 10 pc’s and an interactive whiteboard. We also have an IT club outside of school hours for two groups - one for children aged 8 to 16 - and the other for those over 16.

Special Needs are met at the school which also provides disabled access.

Modern, spacious, safely equipped Kitchens, specifically designed to develop culinary skills and knowledge. One in
Mini Montys and the other for Nursery and Infant children.

And a Shop which sells uniforms, sports clothing and equipment, cd’s and videos which record the events within the school.

Outside the School

Outside the school but within our own private, secure and safe three acre grounds, we have an area dedicated to nature - The Green Monty. Here there is a sensory garden, teaching ampitheatre, a living willow tunnel, yorkshire apple orchard, and an absolutely safe pond where pondlife and wildlife flourish.

We also have a number of play areas with a wide range of adventure play equipment. An innovative approach to road safety, cycle proficiency, and play, comes in the shape of Mini Montys town where children of all ages have the opportunity, using pedal and push power, to negotiate roundabouts,
zebra crossings, go to the car wash, and traverse hump backed bridges - even stop for a McDonalds.
A large paved area ensures the children can enjoy outdoor activities throughout the year.

Beyond our boundaries we take the children out and about in our own 17 seater mini bus to events,
sports, theatre, etc.
